Change in Posts

Again, nothing to post. :-/
I will hold off on posting these meaningless updates. I will keep true to Saturday posts, so the Saturday after something finally happens, you will be informed.

Lame

Well, I have nothing to report. Sorry if this is disappointing, but that's how things go with my cosplay undertakings. :-/ I'm wondering if I should cut this down to once a month posting.

Ta Da!

Wowser, Saturday was strange and I meant to be home on time to actually post this on Sunday, but it didn't happen.

So, here they are. Super late, but still here:

Ponyta Gijinka Cosplay Patterns

Unfortunately I will not be attending the cosplay picnic this year, so this will get done later rather than sooner. But I assure you, this will be the next costume I finish!

On another sad note, seeing as I haven't even had time to blog, I obviously haven't had time to work on this costume, so I don't have much more to post for you this week ... or last week. :-/

"I've been talking to the ship's computer ... and it hates me."

A lovely quote from Marvin in "The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy" (2005). I think that if I could talk to my scanner, I would learn that it hates me. In fact, I have already come to the conclusion (without the use of verbal communication) that it hates me!

Anyways, just letting you know that those Ponyta Gijinka cosplay patterns probably won't be up until Saturday. :(

Sorry for the technology fail,

Patterns for Ponyta

Happy Saturday! I work on Saturdays and keep getting thrown off, thinking that Saturdays are Fridays. I think I need to get some more sleep to fix my brain. ;)

Either way, I do have an update on the Ponyta Gijinka Cosplay! I have drawn up some preliminary patterns for the cosplay (unfortunately my scanner is on the fritz and I don't have a copy of them to post, I hope to get it to you tomorrow).

When people first start cosplaying, they have to think whether they want to use pre-made patterns, modify pre-made patterns, create their own patterns, or just wing it. I generally just take my shears to some fabric and see where it gets me. This is a great way to understand the mathematics of sewing; however, one wrong cut could ruin an entire piece and, since you would need to go back and re-cut the piece, you could ruin a significant amount of fabric (as we have previously established, I am a poor college student and a waste of fabric means a waste of money).

Because of this monetary problem, I have decided to take the extra time to make some patterns. Usually I just brainstorm the pieces for the cosplay (ie: shirt, jacket, skirt) and have at it, but I decided it might be a smart idea to plan it a bit more, haha.

So, look for a post with those patterns tomorrow. :) If I still can't get them up, I'll let you know.

Keep cosplaying,
G

A Short Romp Through History

So, I had a fabulous idea the other day! (Well, it was actually the other night when I was suffering from a night of ceiling-staring, but we won't dwell on that).

Are you ready for it?

I thought that, since I only have weekly posts here, it would be a good idea to have some pattern to them. So, since this blog is "Sticks and Stitches," I decided to make my weekly posts on Saturdays, with a short post on Sundays!

I know, the things I come up with are amazing even to me sometimes. ;)

Since my last post was on Monday, and my next post is this coming Saturday, I decided I'd give you a fun post to pass the time between.

The first real cosplay I created was Mikoto Minagi from Mai Hime (generally referred to as 'My Hime'). I submitted it in the Cosplay Contest at Genericon XX (2007) and it was awarded the craftsmanship award for most accurate cosplay. Boy was that exciting! :D Unfortunately, my subsequent cosplays were not finished enough to compete in later years and this is really as far as I have gotten in the social cosplay world. :(

There is also the case of my Lumen cosplay from Mai Otome ... this was submitted to the Cosplay Competition in Genericon XXI, but was unfortunately not up to my personal standards, or the judges'. I rather wish I had pulled it from the competition; I had done a substancial amount of work on it, but it just wasn't ready. The body looks great, but the head piece is another matter.

Lumen: Mai Otome

I don't even have a photo of my Lumen cosplay. Some day I will finish the headpiece and whips (correctly), I see no reason why I won't especially since this cosplay is more than 75% done!

So, that's it for today. I'll have some more up-to-date things on Saturday.
Comment and check back! I'd love to hear about your own adventures into the world of cosplay!

That 'Next Post' I Had Mentioned

So apparently free time and I don't tend to get along very well ... especially in the summer. You would think that that's kind of strange right? Aren't students supposed to have more time in the summer? Well not if you are a college student: college sucks the free time and the money right out of you. So during what little free time I do get, I work fervently to put away a few pieces of this green cloth that people love and refer to as money.

Now that we have established the fact that I am a college student who needs money, I'll catch you up (if you haven't read today's post in Finding Words For Life). I had already been working a part time job at a small restaurant in Saratoga (yummm), and a short time after my initial post, I was offered a second job as an intern at the local hub of an online college. As you can assume, job a + job b = no free time for me (yay, I rhymed). However, things have started to settle between the two jobs and I can finally sit down at my little desk and hunch back over my computer (such a strange feeling of uncomfortable relaxation).

So, since you are now up to date, we can step back into my world of cosplay! :D

Last post, I told you I would put up some pictures, so here they are:

(Ponyta: Pokemon and Gijinka respectively).

Again, this costume is still in the planning stages and I hope to complete it by 8/14 for UNYCosplay's Cosplay Picnic.

(Homburg Molly from the TLGW books)

Unfortunately, it looks like this costume may not happen this year. I just don't have the proper funds or time to make it and still do the character justice (as many people say: cosplay is the art of making the impossible and wearing it), also the date for this costume party still hasn't been set and I haven't even started it. I was really excited to make it though, so it will definitely stay in my folders for a future time.

So that's where I am right now; I apologize for the lapse in posts and I hope to be back next week with more exciting news. Comment and check back! :)
