"I've been talking to the ship's computer ... and it hates me."

A lovely quote from Marvin in "The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy" (2005). I think that if I could talk to my scanner, I would learn that it hates me. In fact, I have already come to the conclusion (without the use of verbal communication) that it hates me!

Anyways, just letting you know that those Ponyta Gijinka cosplay patterns probably won't be up until Saturday. :(

Sorry for the technology fail,

Patterns for Ponyta

Happy Saturday! I work on Saturdays and keep getting thrown off, thinking that Saturdays are Fridays. I think I need to get some more sleep to fix my brain. ;)

Either way, I do have an update on the Ponyta Gijinka Cosplay! I have drawn up some preliminary patterns for the cosplay (unfortunately my scanner is on the fritz and I don't have a copy of them to post, I hope to get it to you tomorrow).

When people first start cosplaying, they have to think whether they want to use pre-made patterns, modify pre-made patterns, create their own patterns, or just wing it. I generally just take my shears to some fabric and see where it gets me. This is a great way to understand the mathematics of sewing; however, one wrong cut could ruin an entire piece and, since you would need to go back and re-cut the piece, you could ruin a significant amount of fabric (as we have previously established, I am a poor college student and a waste of fabric means a waste of money).

Because of this monetary problem, I have decided to take the extra time to make some patterns. Usually I just brainstorm the pieces for the cosplay (ie: shirt, jacket, skirt) and have at it, but I decided it might be a smart idea to plan it a bit more, haha.

So, look for a post with those patterns tomorrow. :) If I still can't get them up, I'll let you know.

Keep cosplaying,
G

A Short Romp Through History

So, I had a fabulous idea the other day! (Well, it was actually the other night when I was suffering from a night of ceiling-staring, but we won't dwell on that).

Are you ready for it?

I thought that, since I only have weekly posts here, it would be a good idea to have some pattern to them. So, since this blog is "Sticks and Stitches," I decided to make my weekly posts on Saturdays, with a short post on Sundays!

I know, the things I come up with are amazing even to me sometimes. ;)

Since my last post was on Monday, and my next post is this coming Saturday, I decided I'd give you a fun post to pass the time between.

The first real cosplay I created was Mikoto Minagi from Mai Hime (generally referred to as 'My Hime'). I submitted it in the Cosplay Contest at Genericon XX (2007) and it was awarded the craftsmanship award for most accurate cosplay. Boy was that exciting! :D Unfortunately, my subsequent cosplays were not finished enough to compete in later years and this is really as far as I have gotten in the social cosplay world. :(

There is also the case of my Lumen cosplay from Mai Otome ... this was submitted to the Cosplay Competition in Genericon XXI, but was unfortunately not up to my personal standards, or the judges'. I rather wish I had pulled it from the competition; I had done a substancial amount of work on it, but it just wasn't ready. The body looks great, but the head piece is another matter.

I don't even have a photo of my Lumen cosplay. Some day I will finish the headpiece and whips (correctly), I see no reason why I won't especially since this cosplay is more than 75% done!

So, that's it for today. I'll have some more up-to-date things on Saturday.
Comment and check back! I'd love to hear about your own adventures into the world of cosplay!
